ÒThe
Association for Creative ZoologyÓ is the current traveling exhibition from the Hokes Archives. Created by Beauvais Lyons, the project is a
work of mock-documentation presenting an invented system of creation science.
Images from the project, and more information is posted on the Hokes Archives website ( http://web.utk.edu/~blyons) under the
ÒzoologyÓ link.
Earlier versions of this project have been presented at the Museum of the American
Philosophical Society in Philadelphia and twice at the Scopes Trial Festival held each summer in Dayton, Tennessee. A good review of the project by Andrea Kirsh is posted on the Philadelphia ArtBlog:
http://theartblog.org/2010/09/humor-at-work-beauvais-lyons-at-the-american-philosophical-society-and-the-dufala-brothers-at-haverford-college/
The project is presented on two kiosks that display 15
prints, 6 taxidermy specimens, a ceramic replica of a fossil, and various small
props, including a ceramic plate, a mason jar with an insect-snake, a replica
of a centaur statue, and a bottle of dog-fish elixer.
Additional prints are included for presentation on a nearby wall. The
exhibition includes a short 8-minute video for projection or monitor
presentation. The whole
installation requires a gallery of about 1,000 square feet with ceiling of at
least 12 feet in height.
While most of the exhibition materials are crated, because
of the size of the kiosk elements, it is best shipped in a 15
foot box truck. I will work with exhibiting galleries and museums to
arrange for transportation, installation, de-assembly and return transportation
of the exhibition.
